Purposes of the Practicum

As I joined this program, I had realized several purposes of this practicum that meets my need such as:

  1. Student teacher like me, have the opportunity to teach foreign students with different personalities.

  2. Have the courage to teach abroad and use certain skills  in the real teaching-learning situation inside the classroom.

  3. Improve knowledge and skills of every student teacher to be a future teacher.

  4. Enhance self-confidence and improve their skills especially  in speaking English.

Challenges in Practicum

I have 2 challenges in this practicum First, To be honest in first week, it is hard for me to communicate with my cooperating teacher because she can’t speak English well. But thank you to my buddy for translator all throughout this program ends. Secondly, some of my students cannot understand English also. I am afraid that maybe they can’t understand my lesson. So what I did is to learn some of basic Bahasa language, with that they can relate to me and I become more talented because during teaching I have more in body language just for my students to learn.

Overall impressions:

                                            “Experience is the best teacher”

This SEA teacher program is a really great opportunity for Education student like me. You know what, first I hesitate to join this program because of a very personal reason, like financial problem and I am afraid travelling alone. But my very supportive family encourages me to join this program, because they told me it is really a great opportunity. And all I can say that, they are right.

In joining this program, there are lots of improvements to myself as a student teacher. I become more matured enough in classroom and time management. With this program, I also found my second family in Medan, Indonesia. Meeting my fellow SEA Teachers from Thailand and Indonesia, we may have different culture, but the most important is we understand and accept each other. With this program it such a great journey.

Suggestions for Future Improvement

  • I am hoping that more Southeast Asian countries will participate this kind of program.

  • This project will be better if they inform students teacher ahead of time the activities of what they are going to do everyday.
